Fat Grafting Procedure
Consultation
Your Plastic Surgeon will thoroughly examine your face and review your previous surgical history to determine if the procedure suits your condition. Then, he or she will explain the procedure and its expected results, along with the care you must take before/after the procedure.
Procedure
It is an outpatient treatment requiring general anesthesia or sedation with local anesthesia. Your Plastic Surgeon will first harvest the fat from the donor sites carrying ample amounts of fat. Then, they will purify the extracted fat through centrifugation to separate high-density fat cells from blood, blood-tinged water (anesthetic), and oil fractions.
Afterwards, a small amount of fat is injected into the face in a controlled manner to minimize fibrosis or calcification of fat cells and get optimum results. You can notice the volumetric rejuvenation after the fat cells are injected.
What Does Recovery Look Like?
You can return home after the procedure once anesthesia wears off. The face may experience bruising, discomfort, and swelling due to overfilling of the fat cells. However, such symptoms gradually go away on their own once the natural resorption of fat cells happen in the coming 6-8 weeks. After that, you can notice the final results of the treatment.
Although you can continue your work routine within a week, you should wait 3-4 weeks before resuming heavy exercise.
