Endoscopic Facelift Procedure

Endoscopic Facelift

As the signs of aging start showing like skin laxity or a bit of sagging skin, it makes a person want to hold on to his or her youth for a little bit longer. This is because majority of people do not like the toll age takes on them, especially on the face. These aging signs include:

  • Loose skin that leads to folds
  • Sagging jowls
  • Having skin laxity
  • Visible fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sagging eyelids and bags under the eyes
  • Downward sloping mouth tips

Individuals who are in their 30s or 40s tend to show fewer signs of aging. If you fall into this age bracket and have just started showing minimal signs of aging that do not require a full surgical facelift, then an Endoscopic facelift (forehead and midface) procedure may be the right cosmetic procedure for you to reverse those signs.

An Endoscopic facelift is a face lifting technique that requires the use of an endoscope to perform the facelift procedure through very small incisions made in the scalp within the hairline. The approach of this technique is less invasive, involves fewer risks, and has minimal downtime in addition to having no visible scars.

However, if you have significant drooping jowls, extreme sagging skin, and extra fatty deposits on the neck, you may not qualify to be a candidate for this procedure. You would be better served with a traditional facelift.  The endoscopic forehead and midface lift (which targets the upper and mid part of the face) is often combined with a lower or traditional facelift to ultimately target the whole face and create a face that ages harmoniously. Also, it may occasionally be combined with an eyelid lift (Blepharoplasty).

Endoscopic Facelift Technique

Since an endoscopic facelift is a minimally invasive procedure, it has become a more convenient alternative to a conventional surgical facelift. The technique used in the procedure involves making small incisions in the scalp then inserting the endoscope (a small tube with a camera attached). This enables the Plastic Surgeon to see the procedure on a monitor.
On the remaining incisions, other smaller surgical instruments are inserted and guided by the endoscope, the Plastic Surgeon is able to reposition the brow to a higher, softer position as well as the midface to create a younger and less tired looking face.
Since the obvious signs of aging are usually limited to specific areas on the face, this highly focused technique is able to accomplish dramatic improvements, while at the same time remaining more minimally invasive than a traditional facelift.

The Endoscopic Facelift Process

a) The Consultation

The first step of having an Endoscopic facelift surgery in Dubai is to have a detailed consultation and examination in the clinic with our Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, to determine a tailor-made plan for you.

b) The Surgery

The second step is to schedule the Endoscopic facelift surgery with the highly qualified and experienced Plastic Surgeon who is an expert in facelift procedures including the Endoscopic Facelift. The procedure requires 2 to 3 hours under general anesthesia. Prior to the surgery, each patient is screened to ensure that it is safe to proceed with the surgery. This includes a pre-anesthetic consultation, blood testing and to ensure the patient is a fit candidate for the procedure.

During the procedure, the surgeon makes small incisions in the scalp above the hairline. The placements of these small incisions make the results to be virtually scarless. Once the incisions have been made, the surgeon performing the procedure inserts a thin tube-like device with a camera on one end (endoscope) directly below the surface of the skin. Since the device is equipped with a camera, it allows the procedure to be visible on a monitor while the surgeon works. The skin is then repositioned and tightened for both the forehead and midface area. This ensures that the main causes which have led to the sagging of the face are resolved.

c) The Recovery

An Endoscopic facelift involves few tiny incisions thereby the swelling and bleeding is less than that of a conventional facelift. The stitches are also fewer. This makes the recovery period often shorter with minimal risks of complications.

The procedure is usually done on an out-patient basis or may require a one night stay. Pain medication is typically prescribed to alleviate any pain or discomfort and most patients return to work within a week to ten days or so after the procedure. The results are usually visible once the swelling has subsided.

The Plastic Surgeon accompanies the patient throughout the entire process of recovering and healing through scheduled follow-ups.

Precautions

To have a successful Endoscopic facelift procedure, make sure to ask the Plastic Surgeon any questions that you might have, and also make sure that he or she answers them to your satisfaction. The ideal candidate for an Endoscopic facelift should;

  • Have moderate facial imperfections which have been caused by fatty tissue and facial muscles that have started to loosen
  • Have visible lines around the nose, sagging cheeks, and thin downturned lips
  • Have supple skin
  • Have realistic expectations
  • Be in good general health both physically and mentally

What To Expect From An Endoscopic Facelift

An Endoscopic facelift helps patients improve on areas which are more difficult to treat with the conventional facelift such as midface or forehead/brows. Other benefits include;

  • Minimal scarring is involved
  • It is a minimally invasive procedure
  • Involves fewer complications and risks
