Laser Hair Removal

There are various options when it comes to removing unwanted body hair and they include shaving, tweezing, and waxing. These techniques do a temporary job, meaning they have to be done on a regular basis and it can be tiresome. If you are considering a long-lasting solution to reduce or remove unwanted hair, then laser hair removal may be the best option for you.
Laser hair removal is a non-invasive procedure that uses concentrated light technology to remove unwanted hair. Laser hair removal involves a laser emitting concentrated light which is absorbed by the melanin pigment in the hair. The light energy is then converted to heat that damages the hair follicles delaying or inhibiting future hair growth.

Laser hair removal can effectively delay future hair growth for long periods of time, but it does not result in permanent hair removal. According to the FDA, the treatment reduces the amount of hair by about 70% and the hair that grows back is usually much finer and unnoticeable.

Initially, individuals have about six to eight treatment sessions spread over four to eight weeks apart before the results can be seen, and then annual maintenance treatments might be required. Hair growth cycles on different parts of the body vary thus different body parts require different treatment schedules.

Target areas for Laser hair removal include upper lip, chin, neck, shoulders, chest, back, arms, underarms, bikini area, and legs.

Types of Laser hair removal devices

There are multiple laser hair removal devices in the market. The performance of these devices usually depends on your hair and skin type, the expertise of your provider, and the settings they use.
At Al Shunnar Plastic Surgery clinic, we use the LightSheer Duet Diode Laser by Lumenis. It is recommended by most dermatologists as it is very effective, fast, and much less painful as compared to the other lasers. It has a suction device which decreases the pain and can be used on all skin types.

The Laser hair removal process

a) The Consultation

The first step of having Laser hair removal treatment in Dubai is to have a detailed discussion about your skin type and other concerns in our clinic with our experts in order to provide you the best results.

This process will be done on the same day as the first appointment.

b) The Treatment

Before going in for the laser hair removal treatment you are advised to stop plucking, tweezing, or waxing the hair you want to remove at least six weeks prior to your appointment, but shaving is allowed. This is because the laser targets the hair roots which are temporarily removed by plucking and waxing. Although, 24 hours to your appointment you should shave the treatment area as this will help the laser light in better locating the hair follicles.

Sun exposure and exposure to UV lights in tanning beds should be avoided a month before the treatment as it could result in pigmentation disorders, blistering, or scarring. This is because laser light is attracted to pigment, either in the skin or hair follicles. The laser equipment is adjusted according to your skin thickness and hair color. Every person in the treatment room will need to put on eye protection so the laser does not damage the eyes. The outer layers of your skin will also be protected with a special cooling device or a cold gel. This helps the laser light in penetrating the skin better.

Our expert staff will then give a pulse of light to the treatment area and watch the area for a couple of minutes in order to make sure the settings are okay and to check for any reaction.

During the treatment, the laser will emit a concentrated beam of light which will damage the hair follicle and prevent regrowth. Once the procedure is completed, you may be given ice packs and anti-inflammatory lotions or creams to ease any discomfort.

The expert Laser hair removal specialist accompanies the patient throughout the entire treatment process and scheduled follow-up sessions.
