Laser hair removal helps patients get rid of unwanted body hair through few painless and short yet effective treatment sessions. This FDA-approved treatment presents an easy alternative to other tedious and vexing methods like shaving, tweezing, and waxing which often fail to put off hair growth for long periods of time.

Although laser hair removal in Dubai is not a permanent solution, it is efficient and provides long-term results in terms of removing/ reducing hair from the face, arms, legs, and other areas. This blog has everything about laser hair removal explained.

What Is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a non-invasive medical procedure that uses concentrated light technology to reduce and prevent bodily hair growth. The procedure utilizes technology which is known as selective photothermolysis. It involves concentrating heat, from the long pulse durations of the laser light, into the hair follicle pigment (melanin) to break the follicles down. Laser treatment can be done on any body part, such as the face, arms, back, legs, bikini area, etc.

Patients usually notice around a 10-25% reduction in hair growth during the immediate weeks after the treatment. Although new hair may grow later, they tend to be lighter and thinner.

New hairs grow often because they may be at different stages of growth during the treatment session. Therefore, 2-8 sessions with a 6-8 weeks gap are required to obtain satisfactory results. Afterward, maintenance sessions keep the hair growth at bay.

What to Expect?

Patients can expect the following benefits from the laser treatment.

  • Soft and smooth skin with reduced hair growth
  • Reduced ingrown hairs
  • Thinner and lighter new hair
  • Few painless sessions
  • No scars on the body
  • Provides long term solution

Laser Hair Removal Procedure

Laser hair removal is performed in an outpatient setting. The time required to complete one session depends on the area that needs the treatment. It is usually a few minutes to one hour long.

Consultation

During the initial consultation, your Certified Therapist will discuss your cosmetic concerns. They will evaluate if the procedure suits you based on your hair quality and quantity. Thereafter, they will explain the number of sessions you may require and the care you may need in between the sessions.

Before undergoing the laser treatment, it is best if you don’t pluck or wax the target areas or undergo electrolysis treatment, as these procedures may temporarily remove hair roots. Moreover, avoiding sun exposure or tanning beds is preferable before the treatment.

Procedure

During the procedure, the Practitioner cleanses the area and applies a topical numbing cream to help with the tingling sessions during the treatment. Then they give you protective glasses and also wear one to protect their eyes from the rays.

The laser equipment is adjusted to match the patient’s hair color, thickness, and location. Then, the light pulse from the headpiece is directed to your hair while monitoring for any reactions. Patients may feel tingling or slight discomfort which is normal. After the treatment, cold packs are used to cool down the treated area.

What Does Recovery Look Like?

Following the procedure your skin may show some temporary side effects like redness, discomfort, and slight pain. You can apply cold packs, moisturizers, and SPF to overcome such nuisances. Although you can resume your work routine immediately, avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and hot baths for some time.
