Here’s How Fat Grafting Can Restore Volume to Your Face

Fat grafting, also known as autologous fat transfer, efficiently restores volume to your face to give you natural-looking contours and youthful fullness. The procedure lifts the deflated skin, fills in hollowness around the eyes and temples, and straightens the jawline to aesthetically improve the appearance of the patients.

Facial aging is a dynamic process and gradually affects the skin and underlying tissues. These changes lead to increased skin laxity, volume loss, and the appearance of prominent folds in the periorbital, nasolabial, and jowl region.

This blog discusses how fat grafting in Dubai can restore volume to your face to enhance the projection of your facial features.

What Is Fat Grafting?

Fat grafting is a facial rejuvenation procedure that revives a fresh and young-looking face by transferring fat to volume-deficient areas. It enables a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, who thoroughly understands the intricate anatomy of facial compartments, to administer fat in the best way possible.

The common areas that suffer volume depletion and hence require fat transfer are cheeks, paranasal and nasolabial folds, forehead, lips, chin, jawline, and region around the eyes. The minimally-invasive procedure of fat grafting effectively restores volume and provides long-lasting results without requiring the patients to do frequent revisits – given that the patients maintain a healthy routine (diet and exercise) and skin care.

As fat is obtained from one’s body parts with active stores of fat, such as flanks, abdomen, or thighs, the fat transfer can be considered a largely safe alternative for patients as opposed to other fillers and treatments.

The retention of fat cells at the recipient site can be significantly improved with simultaneous injections of PRP which increases the fat survival rate and gives maximum results.

What to Expect?

Patients can expect the following benefits from the procedure.

  • Youthful and rejuvenated face
  • Increased volume in the cheeks, eyes, and jowl
  • Enhanced skin tone due to added fullness
  • Reduced under-eye bags
  • Plump, pouty, and full lips
  • Softened wrinkles and fine lines
  • Improved facial contours
  • Slimmed donor sites

Fat Grafting Procedure

Your Plastic Surgeon will thoroughly examine your face and review your previous surgical history to determine if the procedure suits your condition. Then, he or she will explain the procedure and its expected results, along with the care you must take before/after the procedure.

It is an outpatient treatment requiring general anesthesia or sedation with local anesthesia. Your Plastic Surgeon will first harvest the fat from the donor sites carrying ample amounts of fat. Then, they will purify the extracted fat through centrifugation to separate high-density fat cells from blood, blood-tinged water (anesthetic), and oil fractions.

Afterwards, a small amount of fat is injected into the face in a controlled manner to minimize fibrosis or calcification of fat cells and get optimum results. You can notice the volumetric rejuvenation after the fat cells are injected.

What Does Recovery Look Like?

You can return home after the procedure once anesthesia wears off. The face may experience bruising, discomfort, and swelling due to overfilling of the fat cells. However, such symptoms gradually go away on their own once the natural resorption of fat cells happen in the coming 6-8 weeks. After that, you can notice the final results of the treatment.

Although you can continue your work routine within a week, you should wait 3-4 weeks before resuming heavy exercise.
