What Arm Lift Can and Cannot Do

Arm lift is a contouring surgery that reshapes the upper arms to give a natural-looking, slimmer appearance. Upper arms can become catching sites for fat deposition and sagging skin for various reasons and this can affect an individual’s self-esteem thus making them self-conscious.

Although diet and weight training exercises can help with toning the arm muscles, there is not much you can do to address skin sagging which appear especially after drastic weight loss or aging. Fortunately, an arm lift can eliminate excess loose skin and fat and improve the contours symmetrically.

This blog discusses what arm lift in Dubai can and cannot do in terms of enabling you to achieve an optimal figure with toned and sleek upper arms.

What Is An Arm Lift?

Arm lift or brachioplasty is a surgical treatment that trims the dangling or drooping skin and subcutaneous fat from the upper arm. It helps patients achieve smooth, toned, and firm upper arms, enhancing the overall appearance of the upper body.

The procedure is highly appreciated among men and women for providing drastic results by dealing with the loss of skin elasticity, underlying weakened tissues, and excess fat stores. The procedure does leave a thin scar on the inside of the upper arm, but it is usually well-concealed and will fade with time.

What to Expect?

Patients should know what an arm lift can and cannot do for before opting for the procedure. Let’s first look at the expected benefits of the procedure.

  • Natural-looking slim arms
  • Improved contours and smooth skin
  • Well-balanced and proportionate arms with the rest of the body
  • Better workout results
  • Well-hidden scars under the armpit or back of the arm
  • Better fitting
  • Boosted confidence

Patients should be mindful of the fact that this procedure doesn’t affect the muscles. Therefore, strength training is required to achieve truly toned looks. Moreover, patients must maintain a healthy lifestyle and weight as it doesn’t stop future sagging of skin which may occur as the results of gaining and losing weight rapidly.

Arm Lift Procedure

Consultation

Your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon examines your arms and reviews the medical/ surgical history with lab reports. Later, he or she devises a surgery plan and guides you regarding the procedure and care required to obtain optimal results.

Procedure

An arm lift is an outpatient procedure which is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. The whole procedure takes about 2-3 hours.

The Plastic Surgeon begins with making an incision on the back of the arm that extends from the armpit to the elbow. The location of incision depends on the amount and position of loose skin. Then they reshape and tighten the underlying fat and tissues. After removing the loose skin and smoothing over the new contours, they close the incision with absorbable sutures and wrap it with the bandages.

What Does Recovery Look Like?

Patients may experience bruising, pain, and swelling after the procedure. You will be prescribed pain and anti-inflammatory medications and asked to keep your arms elevated in the initial days. A drain may alsobe placed to collect any excess blood or fluid.

A compression garment is applied for six weeks to help minimize the swelling. However, all swelling is resolved in around six months to give a toned appearance to the arms. Patients can resume their routine a week after the stitches are absorbed. Light exercises can start as the arm recovers, but they must wait six weeks to start the heavy lifting.
