VASER Liposuction: How does it work

vaser-lipo

VASER liposuction is a liposuction technique that removes fat deposits from under the skin. It involves breaking the fat deposits apart and loosening them from the deeper tissues so that the fat can be effectively removed.

VASER is Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. It is an ultrasound technology that utilizes powerful waves to disrupt the bonds between the fat deposits.

Unlike some other techniques of liposuction, VASER liposuction is considered as a more gentle and controlled kind of cosmetic procedure and it requires an experienced and skilled provider to perform it.

How VASER Liposuction works

Liposuction is among the most sort after cosmetic procedure according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. There are different liposuction techniques but they all operate under the same basic premise. Liposuction involves breaking apart fat cells and removing them from the body using saline solution, anesthesia, and cannulas to suction out the fat deposits from underneath the skin.

Lasers and water pressure are some of the ways that the fat deposits are broken apart before being suctioned. VASER liposuction uses ultrasonic energy. These liposuction techniques involve generating heat that help in breaking apart the fat deposits and to tighten the skin in the treatment area.

VASER liposuction is not only gentle but it is also extremely precise in the way fat is removed. It disrupts the connection between the muscles underneath and the fatty tissue without hurting the underlying fatty tissue. This is why VASER liposuction is used in body sculpting.

Target areas for VASER liposuction include:

  • Chest
  • Arms
  • Chin
  • Neck
  • Upper back
  • Thighs
  • Hips
  • Buttocks
  • Waistline
  • Abdomen

Good Candidate for VASER Liposuction

You can be the ideal candidate for liposuction if you are healthy with no underlying medical condition. VASER liposuction or any type of liposuction is not a weight loss tool. It is for individuals who are within 15 pounds of their ideal weight. This  liposuction technique is for individuals who are trying to spot-treat their stubborn fat deposits and reveal the muscle tone underneath.

VASER Liposuction procedure

Before the VASER liposuction procedure, it is important to let your provider be aware of any medication or supplements that you may be taking. You will be asked to avoid certain medications such as blood thinning medication at least 2 weeks to the procedure. Also, do not drink alcohol on the night before the procedure. You will be given additional instructions by your provider.

VASER liposuction is often performed  under general anesthesia or a form of conscious sedation.

During VASER liposuction tumescent fluid or a saline solution mixed with an anesthetic is injected into the target area. Ultrasound probes are then inserted into the skin via a small incision to break up the fatty deposits.

The fatty cells gently break apart without interfering with the surrounding tissues and a cannula is then used to vacuum out the fatty deposits and most of the fluid through the same port.

Some of the fluid are left in the body to help minimize the post-procedural pain and the body absorbs it over the following days.

Recovery and Results

After the VASER liposuction procedure, the treatment area might be a little swollen and bruised. A compression garment will need to be worn for several weeks after the procedure to control the swelling.

The results will start being visible after about 3-6 months as the body settles into a more modified form. Living a healthy lifestyle will help to maintain the results of VASER liposuction.
