Mini-Facelift

mini-facelift

A mini-facelift is also known as the mini lift, the S-lift, lunchtime facelift, or the weekend facelift is a slightly modified version of the traditional facelift. It can provide individuals with a refreshed and rejuvenated look by suspending the SMAS facial muscle although the results are less dramatic than those of the traditional facelift.

Who should have a Mini-facelift

As the skin ages, the earliest signs of aging start to appear on the most delicate areas which are the face and neck. In our 30s, fine lines can start to appear and transform into deeper wrinkles in the 40s. Accompanying this is loose excess skin and volume loss in our 50s. Lifestyle and external factors such as stress and too much sun exposure can escalate the process further.

Although we cannot stop the aging process, we can reverse it and slow it down. The Mini-facelift is a great procedure for individuals who desire to reverse the signs of aging and achieve a more youthful-looking appearance without the need to undergo a full facelift procedure.

How a Mini-facelift works

A mini-facelift is a surgical procedure that focuses on sagging skin in the lower face. It involves the Plastic Surgeon lifting the skin upwards through small incisions. The smaller incisions make it possible to create a rejuvenating effect on the jowls and cheek regions while reducing the recovery time and risks.

During the procedure, excess skin is also removed which in turn tightens the skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.

A mini-facelift can be done in conjunction with a brow lift or an eye lift and also fat injection to help maximize the results.

The mini-lift addresses concerns such as:

  • Jowls
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Marionette line
  • Facial skin laxity

Good Candidate for a Mini-Facelift

The ideal candidate for a mini-facelift is an individual in his/her 40s or 50s seeking to reduce the preliminary signs of aging.

A good candidate should be:

  • Above the age of 40
  • Physically and psychologically healthy
  • nonsmoker
  • Concerned by the aging profile of their facial features
  • Minimal to moderate skin laxity
  • Seeking an alternative to the traditional facelift
  • Realistic about the outcome of the procedure

Mini-Facelift procedure

The mini-lift is done under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.

During the procedure, the Plastic Surgeon makes an incision at the hairline, extending in front of the ear. This procedure does not involve the incision extending into the upper forehead , temporal region or behind the ear like the traditional facelift. Also the dissection of a mini facelift is less extensive than a traditional facelift. This allows for the procedure to be considerably less invasive.

The Plastic Surgeon will then manipulate the underlying tissues in the skin by pulling them up and removing excess tissue.

Once the surgery is complete, the incisions are closed and a head dressing is placed.

The goal of a facelift is to rejuvenate the face into a more youthful look. This can be achieved by lifting the sagging cheeks and jawline skin, remove excess skin and tighten the underlying tissue and muscles.

What to expect

Following the procedure, you will experience bruising, swelling, and pain but medications will be prescribed for the discomfort. The post-operative bandages are removed in 2-3 days. You will be comfortable in public in a bout a week after the procedure. Most individuals can return to work in about 1-2 weeks but strenuous activities should be avoided for 3 to 4 weeks.

The results are long-lasting and they can last for 5-10 years.
