Liposuction is a minimally invasive cosmetic surgical procedure that removes stubborn fatty deposits from underneath your skin. Vaser liposuction is a liposuction technique that uses ultrasonic vibration to breakdown fat cells and loosen them from the deeper surrounding tissues so they can be effectively removed.
Vaser stands for vibration amplification for sound energy at resonance. In addition to using ultrasound technology to disrupt the bond between fat cells, Vaser liposuction is more controlled and gentle as it results in less swelling, bruising and downtime.
Vaser liposuction can be performed on a range of areas including underneath the chin, the neck, arms, flanks, abdomen, arms, back, hips, buttocks, thighs, calves and ankles. It can also be used during gynecomastia treatment (male breast reduction).
A good candidate for liposuction is anyone with good skin elasticity who does not smoke and doesn’t have bleeding condition. He/she should also be realistic about the procedure.
It should however be noted that liposuction is not a weight loss tool. Vaser liposuction is for individuals who are trying to treat localized fat deposits and reveal muscle tone underneath.
How Vaser Liposuction Works
All liposuction techniques operate on the same basic premise. Liposuction basically involves breaking up fat deposits and removing them from the body using saline solution and suctioning the fat out with cannulas.
Using lasers and water solutions are some of the ways that the fatty deposits can be dislodged before suction. Vaser liposuction uses ultrasound energy to generate heat which helps in breaking apart the fat cells for easier removal and to minimally tighten the skin in the treatment area. It also gives a more even result. It is gentle and precise in the fat removal process. It disrupts the connection between the muscles underneath and the fatty tissue without causing problems to the underlying healthy tissue.
Vaser Liposuction Procedure
Like all liposuction procedures, vaser liposuction is done on an outpatient basis under either general anesthesia, intravenous sedation or local anesthesia depending on the treatment area. One night admission may be required if a larger area is performed
Tumescent solution or a saline anesthetic solution mixture is injected into the treatment areas. The solution expands the fat compartment and restricts the small blood vessels.
Your Plastic Surgeon will then make tiny incisions in the treatment areas and insert a skin protector before advancing the ultrasound probe into the fatty tissue. With a gentle back and forth hand movement the fat is dislodged and broken up by the ultrasound energy. This makes the subsequent fat extraction less traumatic compared to the traditional liposuction.
Some of the tumescent fluid is left in the body to numb the post-procedural pain.
What to expect after Vaser Liposuction
Following Vaser liposuction you’ll be a little bruised and swollen in the treatment areas and you’ll also need to wear a compression garment for the next several weeks to help control the swelling.
The recovery time usually depends on the extent of the procedure. The results will be obscured at first because of the swelling but they’ll be more visible in about 3-6 months following the procedure.
Vaser liposuction results can be permanent as long as you live a healthy lifestyle of working out and eating a healthy diet.
