Preparation for a Brow Lift Surgery
During your consultation with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who is an expert in facial aesthetics such as a brow lift, you will discuss your concerns and expectations. Your Plastic Surgeon will then perform a physical exam on your facial area.
In addition to this, you’ll be asked to:
- Get a medical evaluation or lab testing
- Adjust your current medications or take certain medication
- Avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory medication, and supplements as they can increase bleeding and bruising
- Stop smoking a few weeks before and after the surgery
Brow Lift Procedure
Brow lift surgery is typically performed in a hospital, a licensed ambulatory surgical center, or an accredited surgical facility under either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia.
Different techniques can be used in brow lift procedures.
In the endoscopic brow lift, the Plastic Surgeon uses an endoscope (a thin tube with a camera at the end) together with special instruments which are placed through small inconspicuous incisions within the hairline. The tissues and muscles beneath the skin are adjusted and repositioned thereby correcting the visible furrows and creases in the forehead.
The coronal incision brow lift technique involves the Plastic Surgeon making an incision on the top of the head from ear to ear within the hair-bearing skin. The forehead skin is lifted and muscle adjustment is made under direct visualization. The resulting scar is usually concealed within the hair. This technique is rarely used nowadays since the endoscopic technique has become popular.
For individuals with very high foreheads, an incision at the anterior hairline is recommended. This ensures that the brow is lifted without altering the height of the front hairline.
Once the Plastic Surgeon is satisfied with his/her work, the incisions are closed with skin adhesives, absorbable or removable sutures, or special clips.
Recovery and Results
After the procedure, the forehead might be loosely wrapped to minimize the swelling. A small drainage tube might be placed along the incision site to drain excess fluids or blood. You will experience itching, numbness, pain, and discomfort. Pain medication will be prescribed to ease the discomfort.
The bandages are removed after one to three days while the sutures are removed within seven to ten days.
The initial healing takes between ten to fourteen days. And any bruising can be camouflaged with makeup. Although you will look presentable in public, the healing will continue for several weeks as the swelling dissipates and the incision lines fade or refine.
The results of the brow lift surgery appear within several weeks as the swelling and bruising go down to reveal smoother, forehead skin and a more youthful rested appearance.
