PRP Injections Technique

PRP rejuvenation is a therapy that uses one’s own blood to rejuvenate the skin. It uses the platelets’ growth factors found in the blood to stimulate healing. The growth factors assist in creating new collagen to improve and regenerate damaged skin hence slowing down the signs of aging.
Minimal amount of blood is used, where the plasma is extracted through centrifugation. The plastic surgeon then reinjects it into the patient’s skin thus stimulating regeneration of the subcutaneous tissue. Because it is the patient’s own blood that is used during the treatment, no other synthetic substances enter the body meaning there are no side effects with the treatment. The Platelet Rich Plasma Injection Process

a) The Consultation

The first step is having a detailed consultation and examination in the clinic with our board-certified plastic surgeon, to determine a tailor-made plan for each candidate.

b) The Procedure

The second step is to schedule the procedure with the highly qualified and experienced plastic surgeon who is an expert in PRP injection and anti-aging procedures.

Prior to any surgery or treatment, each patient is screened to ensure that it is safe to proceed with the procedure. This might include a pre-anesthetic consultation, blood testing, and/or to ensure the patient is a fit candidate for the procedure.

Before the treatment starts, 10-20 ml of blood is drawn from the patient. The plasma is then separated from the other components of the blood by centrifuging. It is injected into the skin either superficially or into the deeper layers depending on the effects the patient wants to achieve. The treatment is not painful, but it stings a little. Depending on the patient’s pain tolerance levels, he/she can opt for topical anesthesia.

The initial results are visible after the first treatment although subsequent treatments are needed for optimal results. The whole process, which is an in-office treatment, takes about an hour or less depending on the area being treated.

c) The Recovery

Immediately after the treatment, there might be some swelling, redness and minimal pain on the treatment area but these fade away within a few hours. Normal day-to-day activities can be resumed immediately after the treatment, but strenuous activity should be avoided for at least 24 hours. Improvement in skin tone and texture will be visible after a few weeks while fine lines and wrinkles disappear within three to six months as they adjust to the volume.

The effects of the treatment can last between one and two years depending on the individual’s skin and lifestyle.

Over a period of about 4 weeks, the patient would typically have several post-treatment visits to the clinic to monitor the healing process.

Although a PRP injection procedure is straightforward, it is important that the right level of intervention or treatment is determined and that the procedure, whether surgical or non-surgical be performed by a qualified and expert plastic surgeon. A potential candidate has to fit into certain criteria to be eligible for the procedure and should:

Be in good health both physically and psychologically.
