Buccal fat removal surgery is increasingly becoming a popular trend as it provides patients a youthful appearance adorned with slimmer and v-shaped (angular) facial contours. The procedure has been designed to achieve the widely desired hollowed cheekbones and chiseled jawline.
It holds true, not everyone is born with sculpted cheeks and well-defined chins. Many people tend to have a baby face with chubby face due to the presence of buccal fat in the lower cheeks and jaw area. Although this facial fat is usually extremely resistant to exercise or diet, it can be reduced with cosmetic surgery which eventually improves aesthetic appearance and boosts confidence of the patients.
This blog discusses why buccal fat removal surgery in Dubai has become the latest trend and whether you should follow it.
What Is Buccal Fat Removal Surgery?
Buccal fat removal surgery, or buccal fat reduction, is a cosmetic procedure to remove buccal fat pads from the cheeks. Naturally present in the hollow region, the buccal fat pad is a deep facial fat compartment responsible for giving your face its fullness. Removal of this structure gives a contoured and slimmer appearance as it results in significant loss of mass in the mid-face area.
Buccal fat removal surgery entails no visible surgical scars and provides quick results. It is typically performed for cosmetic concerns only and does not cause any health-related side effects.
As the fat size varies in individuals, there is not one-size-fits-all formula for the prospective patients. As the surgery brings permanent slimming results, it is important to remove reasonable amount of fat only to avoid extreme results.
Also, one should keep in mind the ageing-related gradual loss of fat volume as excess removal may later cause a haggard and worn look. Therefore, patients should consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to come up with the safest and most effective plan for their surgery.
What to Expect?
Buccal fat removal surgery can provide multiple aesthetic benefits.
- Permanent slimming of the face
- High cheekbones with contoured face
- Well-defined and angular jawline
- No visible scars
- Boosted confidence and self-esteem
- Permanent results with quick recovery
Buccal Fat Removal Procedure
Buccal fat reduction is performed as an outpatient treatment and requires local anesthesia. It is a simple procedure that is usually performed within 30 minutes to one hour.
Consultation
During initial consultation, the Plastic Surgeon will examine your facial fat and determine if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure. After reviewing the lab reports and previous surgical history, he or she will discuss the procedure with you and explain in detail the care you must take during recovery.
Procedure
After numbing the insides of your mouth, your Plastic Surgeon will make an incision on the inner side of the mouth (against the cheeks) and reach the buccal fat pad compartment through the buccinator muscle. Then, they will remove the small portion of buccal fat by applying pressure on the outsides of the cheek which helps the fat pop out from the incision site. Once enough fat is removed, the wound is closed with absorbable sutures. The process is repeated on the other side as well. Finally, the incisions are closed with the help of sutures or adhesives.
What Does Recovery Look Like?
Patients may initially experience some level of discomfort, pain, or swelling, which normally gets resolved in a few days. You can take pain medications to relieve pain as prescribed by your Provider. Patients are advised to take a bland liquid diet, and avoid poking with the wound site with your tongue.
Although patients can notice immediate thinning of cheeks following the treatment, full recovery takes around three weeks.
