Liposuction sculpts and contours the body by removing undesirable localized fat that has not responded to diet and exercise from areas such as the abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, chin, cheeks, neck and upper arms. Local anesthesia or general anesthesia may be used, and the procedure can last anywhere from one to four hours depending on the amount of fat being removed.
The entire procedure is performed through small, inconspicuous incisions. Liposuction can also be performed with the aid of a laser (laser liposuction). The basic procedure is the same, but laser liposuction uses a special laser tool that liquifies the unwanted fat so that it is easier to remove through the cannula. The laser also helps control bleeding, which can help speed up the post-operative healing process.
With a sensible diet and exercise after the surgery, the results from liposuction are permanent. Good candidates for liposuction are men and women who are of average weight for their height, but have specific areas of extra fat. The procedure is most effective in patients who have healthy, elastic skin. If you have excess skin, you may require an additional procedure such as a tummy tuck to obtain the desired results. It is important to note that liposuction is not a weight loss procedure; rather, the treatment allows us to sculpt and shape your body, thereby helping you achieve a more balanced and attractive body figure. Side effects from the surgery include bruising, swelling, and numbness. Your final result will not be apparent immediately following surgery, but will become apparent over the first several weeks due to the swelling. Depending on the extent of the surgery, most patients resume their normal routine in one to two weeks. We generally recommend waiting three to four weeks before resumption of vigorous exercise. Full recovery from the swelling and bruising may take one to three months.
Immediately after surgery, our patients are provided with detailed aftercare instructions and mild painkillers, if necessary. To minimize swelling and facilitate healing, you may be asked to wear compression garments for a few days. Compression garments also help tighten your skin after liposuction surgery. Before you leave our practice, we will give you an idea of when you may expect a full recovery, depending on the nature of your custom liposuction.
Abdominoplasty, or a “tummy tuck” is designed to correct a protruding abdomen resulting from weak abdominal muscles, weight gain or pregnancy. Obesity causes the skin to lose its elasticity. These conditions may not respond well to diet or exercise if the skin and underlying muscles have been stretched.
Good candidates for the abdominoplasty are patients who have exercise- and diet-resistant accumulations of fat and sagging skin and/or abdominal muscles that have been weakened by age or pregnancy. In fact, women who have had one or more pregnancies are often ideal candidates for tummy tuck surgery. With abdominoplasty, the abdominal wall muscles are tightened and excess fatty tissue and skin are removed to improve the body contour. The goal is a narrower, flatter abdomen. Realistic expectations are important. A tummy tuck is not a substitute for weight loss.
The procedure takes approximately two to three hours and is typically performed under spinal or general anesthesia. The incision is placed within or just above the pubic area, which is hidden within your swimsuit lines and extends from one hipbone to the other.
The side effects of the surgery include temporary swelling, bruising, and numbness of the abdominal wall. Most of our patients are up and walking one day after surgery, but they generally require two to three weeks of intense recovery before returning to work. We advise against heavy lifting or vigorous activity for approximately six weeks after surgery.
A thigh lift is performed to remove excess skin and fat from the upper legs. Candidates typically suffer from loose, inelastic skin after extreme weight loss due to diet, exercise or bariatric surgery. Because of this, the procedure is often combined with others such as breast lifts, facelifts and arm lifts to retain an attractive body proportion. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia. Wide variations in the design of the incisions to meet clothing or personal desires are possible. Lifting the inner thighs requires only short incisions extending from the anterior part of the thigh/groin crease around to the buttock crease. Lateral or anterior thigh lifts can be performed as separate procedures if desired. The buttocks can be lifted with upper or lower scars. The doctor will show you what specific procedures are available to solve your particular problem.
You are placed in a compression garment (similar to a long-line elastic support girdle) at the end of surgery to reduce swelling and to assist in the natural shrinking and tightening of the skin. With smaller thigh lifts, the initial discomfort is usually easily controlled with prescription pain medication. With larger thigh lifts, one or two nights in the hospital may be required. Bruising and swelling usually subside within a month, strenuous activities are usually possible in 6 weeks and almost all symptoms are gone in 4 to 6 months.
Also called belt lipectomy, torsoplasty and panniculectomy, the circumferential body lift is performed to remove excess skin from the torso and upper legs.
Candidates for body lifts typically suffer from loose (inelastic) skin on many or most areas of the body as a result of age, childbearing or significant weight loss due to diet, exercise or bariatric surgery. Because of this, the procedure is often combined with others such as breast lifts, arm lifts and liposuction to retain a proper body proportion. Body lifts tighten and tone the abdomen, back, buttocks, hips and thighs.
During the procedure, skin is lifted from underlying tissue, muscles are tightened and stitched and fat is removed where necessary, and the skin is sutured closed. The navel is often re-positioned. Although body-contouring surgery will create scars, our plastic surgeons take care to place the scars where they are least conspicuous. Surgical tubes may be needed for a few days to drain any fluid, and patients may need to wear compression garments for a few weeks to facilitate faster healing.
After surgery, patients are encouraged to walk as soon as they are able, although strenuous activities must be limited for about a month. Even though results are visible immediately, bruising and swelling usually subside within a month. Strenuous activities are usually possible in 6 weeks and almost all symptoms are gone in 4 to 6 months.
Brachioplasty, also known as an arm lift, is a surgical procedure to remove skin and fat from the upper arm, reducing skin redundancy that makes clothing fit improperly or makes you feel uncomfortable in short sleeves or sleeveless tops.
Brachioplasty surgery can markedly improve the appearance of your arm. The combined effects of aging, gravity, fluctuations in weight, and a loss of skin elasticity all contribute to a loss of tone in the arms as we age. The type of arm lift will depend on your specific needs and amount of laxity. By assessing the excess skin and excess fat (if any is present), we will determine which procedure is best for you. The incisions required are determined by the severity of your condition. Minimal skin excess may be treated with an incision in the armpit alone. More severe laxity is treated with an incision from the armpit to the elbow. Liposuction is combined with the procedure in patients who have significant amounts of fat.
Brachioplasty surgery usually takes two to three hours to perform. Brachioplasty surgery may be performed as an outpatient procedure, or you may choose to stay in the hospital overnight. You are placed in a compression garment (similar to a long-line elastic support girdle) at the end of surgery to reduce swelling and to assist in the natural shrinking and tightening of the skin.
You will notice an improvement in your arm contour immediately. However, your shape will continue to improve in the following weeks as the mild swelling subsides. You should be up and walking the day following surgery, although your arm will be sore for several days. You should able to resume your normal daily activities within several days following surgery, and you should be able to resume all of your physical activities within three weeks of surgery.
Childbirth and aging can lead to lax vaginal tissues and adversely affect intimacy in some women. A surgical tightening of the vaginal tissue (vaginoplasty) can help to restore sexual sensitivity. Some vaginoplasty procedures, are reconstructive surgeries to repair birth defects when the vagina is malformed, too short, or absent (such as in vaginal agenesis).
Labiaplasty (correction of the vaginal lips), can be performed alone or with vaginoplasty and can be to change the size or shape of the labia or to correct an asymmetry between them. This may be a functional surgery for some patients who find discomfort in performing sports activities.
To restore the labia's more youthful appearance the woman's own ("autologous”) fat tissue may also be filled into the larger vaginal lips.
Brazilian buttocks augmentation is basically transferring fat from certain areas of your body and injecting it into the buttock area. The fat for the transfer is taken from the more fatty areas of your body like the stomach, the “love handles,” hips, lower back, or thighs. The fat is then removed with a gentle liposuction device designed to protect live fat cells. Once these fat particles are purified, they’re injected back into the buttocks through a very small incision.
As this procedure requires transferring fat from certain areas of your body to the buttocks, so women who are overweight or have stubborn fat deposits are ideal candidates for the Brazilian Fat Transfer procedure. In fact, this is a great procedure if you have extra fat on your body since it functions as a two-in-one liposuction plus butt enhancement surgery.
BBA may not be a good choice for individuals who are very small in stature or those who are very slender and have little overall body fat; however, the cosmetic surgeon is often able to locate a sufficient amount of fat during the consultation to allow the fat transfer to be performed successfully. If you are severely under your ideal weight, you are unlikely to be a candidate for this surgery.
Every surgery has risks and it is important to discuss these risks with your surgeon before you schedule any procedure. Certain aspects of your health and lifestyle may put you at greater or lesser risk while having a BBA. One of the best ways to minimize the risks is by choosing a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon to perform your surgery.
The recovery time for a BBA varies from patient to patient, but it is not uncommon for patients whose jobs are not highly active to return to work within seven days. Within three to four weeks, many patients resume moderate to full activity levels, though the recovery time may be longer for certain patients.
Swelling and bruising will diminish in the weeks following the surgery. Patients need to wear a compression garment beneath their regular clothes for a brief length of time during their recovery. Your surgeon may instruct you to be mindful of how you are sitting in the weeks after your butt augmentation procedure; however, each patient's guidelines are different, and your personalized post-operative instructions will be reviewed with you during your pre-op visits.
Thermage® is a safe and effective procedure that stimulates your skin to produce more and better collagen, which makes it tighter and healthier-looking. Collagen is the major building block of the skin. This protein helps the skin to be tight and elastic, meaning that it returns to its shape after pulled or otherwise deformed. Collagen-rich skin resists wrinkling, is thicker, and appears more youthful. Thermage® uses a unique form of radio frequency (RF) energy to simultaneously tighten existing collagen and stimulate the skin to produce more collagen. The result is tightened skin producing a kind of “lift” without a single incision. With minimal treatment discomfort and no recovery, tighter, smoother skin, an overall more youthful appearance can be achieved. The energy is delivered through a hand-piece directly applied to the skin heating the deeper layers causing tightness and simultaneously cooling the skin for comfort. The addition of the new CPT hand-piece allows the heat to be more evenly distributed across the treatment area, permitting the Thermage® CPT system to heat four times more tissue to therapeutic temperatures than rival technologies and thus significantly increasing its effectiveness.
Thermage® is effective on:
• The Eyes – treating upper and lower eyelids to reduce hooding and fine lines, tightening creppy skin as well as lifting of the brow line
• The Face – smoothing and tightening sagging skin, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles and helping define the jawline and lip. Addresses loose jowls and “turkey neck”
• The Body – helping contour loose skin and smooth bulges. Treating wrinkles, creppy or sagging skin on the tummy, knees, arms, legs, hands or buttocks example after weight loss or pregnancy. Effective on cellulite.
After treatment the skin may be slightly red, but most people resume regular activities immediately after treatment. There is no recovery time or special follow-up care. The results may appear immediately but usually, measurable tightening and contouring appear gradually in the 2 to 6 months post treatment. Results can last years depending on the skin's condition and ageing process.
While Thermage® cannot produce the same level of effects as a surgical facelift, it often produces visible results that for many people are well worth the tradeoff of a non-surgical procedure with no recovery.
VelaShape® is a non-invasive body contouring treatment for circumferential and cellulite reduction*. VelaShape enables you to safely achieve a toned, contoured and well shaped body in typcially 3 treatment sessions (single treatment protocol is also available); making you look and feel more youthful. VelaShape provides dramatic results without downtime or significant discomfort.
The elōs technology combination of infrared light, coupled radio frequency energy rollers and vacuum causes deep heating of the fat cells, their surrounding connective tissue and the underlying dermal collagen fibers. This type of efficient heating and vacuum stimulate the growth of new and better collagen and elastin which results in localized reduction in skin laxity, body volume and an overall improvement in skin structure and texture.
Velashape III helps to remove excess body fat and treating cellulite from problem areas such as the abdomen, thighs, arms, buttocks. Muffin top and chin.
Treatment is safe and effective for all skin types and colors. There are no reported short or long-term health effects.
Most patients find VelaShape III comfortable – like a warm deep tissue massage. The treatment is designed to accommodate your sensitivity and comfort level
VelaShape III is a no-downtime treatment, though it’s normal to experience a warm sensation in the treatment area or notice that it looks a little pink for a few hours after the procedure. You should be able to return to your regular activities right away.
The combination of microneedles and radiofrequency leads to substantial improvement in skin quality and texture. The procedure involves penetration of microneedles into the dermis to deliver high-tensioned radiofrequency pulse into the targeted tissue. This results in the body’s own production of elastin and collagen fibres, making skin firmer and healthier.
The microneedles are driven directly into the skin at a certain depth, and radiofrequency energy is then released inside of the skin. This gives a more uniformed deep tissue heating that will stimulate new collagen fibers production. The needle tip contains 25 very small gold needles acting as an internal conductor. In cases of acne, the RF energy kills the bacteria responsible for the lesions and shrinks the sebaceous gland.
Fractional Radio Frequency Microneedles Treatment is effective for:
• Acne and acne scars
• Wrinkles & Fine lines
• Open pores
• Stretch marks and skin laxity
• Scars of all types
The treatment area is numbed for 30 minutes before starting. The procedure would take approximately 20-30 minutes to do depending on the area and pain threshold. Immediately after the procedure, the treated area is warm, red and swollen. After 2 days the needle marks will disappear.
After a few treatments you will see a noticeable difference, it will help both improve wrinkles and appearance of the skin by tightening, rejuvenating, reducing pore size and minimizing scars.
CoolSculpting® is a quick and painless procedure that cools fat cells and destroys them resulting in fat reduction in the targeted areas of the stomach, abdomen and other areas.
CoolSculpting® is a revolutionary, non-invasive way to eliminate unwanted fat bulges. It is the first FDA-approved device that destroys fat cells without surgery and it delivers safe and effective results.
The science behind CoolSculpting®, called Cryolipolysis™, was developed by dermatologists at Harvard Medical School. Their research demonstrated that fat cells are naturally more sensitive to the effects of cold. By using advanced tissue cooling technology, CoolSculpting® can destroy fat cells through a controlled cooling process leaving the surrounding tissues unharmed. For properly selected patients, the CoolSculpting® procedure resulted in a noticeable, natural-looking fat reduction in targeted areas without the need for needles, incisions, anesthesia, or recovery-time. After a virtually painless procedure, clinical improvement is evident within 2 to 4 months.
Additional treatments can be performed to attain additional fat destruction. After the treatment, normal activities can be resumed immediately– there is no recovery time. Common areas for non-surgical Zeltiq fat removal include belly, flanks, back, saddle bags and thighs.
